FashionValet Exclusive: Vivy Yusof's Top Raya Must-Haves

FashionValet Exclusive: Vivy Yusof's Top Raya Must-Haves

Vivy Yusof, co-founder of FashionValet, shares with us all the things that make her festive seasons special.

What is your Raya must-have food?

Ketupat! By the end of day one I usually get depressed when I think about how much ketupat I've eaten. You can only eat it once a year so it makes it even more limited edition!

What is your Raya must-have song?

‘Balik Kampung’ by Sudirman. I used to sing it all the time when we went back to our grandparents' houses. But now they're not around anymore so we only celebrate Raya in KL. The song is even more special because I won't ever be able to go 'balik kampung' to visit them again. So whoever is still able to 'balik kampung', sing your heart at that song and appreciate it while you can.

What is your Raya must-have tradition?

Salam parents and elders. It is so amazing that you can fight with your siblings all year long, and then you have that one day to make everything zero-zero again.

What is your Raya must-have memory?

Our family is small - it's just my parents who are only children, and me and my sister. So while everyone goes around visiting and having lots of cousins to celebrate with, my sister and I only had each other. So before we got married, we had all the time to hang out and take naps on raya day and just enjoy each other's company. But now that we're married and have to follow our husbands and be with our children, I miss my time with my sister and will always remember that as something very special.

An Interview With Lisa: POPLOOK Gives Back With Lisa Surihani x GOLD

An Interview With Lisa: POPLOOK Gives Back With Lisa Surihani x GOLD

This year, POPLOOK Gives Back joins hands with Malaysia’s sweetheart, Lisa Surihani, to create a collection using artwork by individuals with learning disabilities. Together with GOLD- an Association of Learning Disabilities- they have achieved just that with this limited edition collection of women’s ready-to-wear.

Shoppr got a chance to speak with the beautiful Lisa herself to ask her a little bit more about the collection.

Shoppr:

Hi Lisa! Of all the organisations to work with, what made you decide on GOLD for this collaboration?

Lisa:

I knew of GOLD prior to working with them as my cousin, who is autistic, had participated in the activities they organised in the past. I’ve also personally attended an event of theirs before and I loved what they saw in these children- that they have talent and abilities.

Shoppr:

What was the most exciting part about working with POPLOOK?

Lisa:

The fact that they said ‘yes’! POPLOOK has always been very charitable, so I suggested involving the children from GOLD to provide their creative input. We gave the kids a theme- the orchid, that represents love and strength- and took them to the Lake Gardens to draw. The final print on the clothes is actually the work of one of the kids, Anis Atiqah Kamal. This concept isn’t something that has been done often, but POPLOOK was ready to give it a try. It’s not just about giving, but it’s about recognising that these kids are able, not disabled.

Shoppr:

Who are your style icons?

Lisa:

I don’t really have any, honestly. I usually just wear what suits me. If I happen to stumble upon something online or in magazines that I like, I’ll try it. I am trying to explore my style and be a little more adventurous, though!

Shoppr:

Which are your personal favourite pieces?

Lisa:

The Galina mermaid maxi dress and the Galia wide legged pants that I wore to the press conference. I also love the headscarves! They feature the same orchid print but in a slightly more subtle manner.

CL is the Queen of Edgy and Here’s How She Does It

Lee Chae-rin, or as she puts it: “I go by the name of CL”, is a tough act to follow. This ‘baddest female’ deserves the recognition, and we all have to know how she does it.

On the streets: Edgy + Chic

CL knows how to look chic, yet she never loses that extra oomph, in this case it’s in the form of a padded shoulder top. Add pieces (a leather jacket or stilettos, perhaps?) that’ll show your personal style to your outfit.

On the red carpet: Edgy + Classy

If you’re attending a ball or a dance, keep in mind that you have a theme to follow. CL showed her own flair in that dress, but still looked classy. Search for pieces that have two of your favourite styles merged into one (they do exist!) and it’ll save you a lot of hassle.

On the stage: Edgy + Edgy

If all else doesn’t seem to work, go all out! Wear killer accessories on top of bold prints, just like what CL did here! Remember, always be unapologetically you [ Shoppr’s mantra ;) ]!

Everyone’s got a cute tush so flaunt it! It’s just a matter of finding the perfect pair of jeans to do the trick.

Jersey Dress + Heels

Loose shirt dresses always work with heels to give you that effortless stylish look, and the concept remains true even with jersey dresses. Jersey dresses already come patterned, so keep the heels basic. Classic strappy heels or pumps will work just fine.

Joggers + Jacket

Joggers have the potential to make you look a little like a homebody, but smarten it up with a structured jacket and you’ll be safe. Blazers make a great option if you’re going for the sophisticated touch. For something a little more casual, try denim or leather jackets instead.
